More exciting news for people looking forward to American Gods Season 2 (which seems to be shaping up nicely) as a new cast member has just been announced. We’ll leave it up to the folks over at Amazon to fill you in…
“Sakina Jaffrey (House of Cards, Mr. Robot) will be joining the cast of the second season of Prime Original series American Gods, which is available to watch on Prime Video exclusively in the UK. Sakina will play the role of Mama-Ji. Now a waitress at the Motel America, Mama-Ji is a Hindu goddess of war. With her necklace of skulls, acerbic wit and free spirit, she’s a match for any mighty god or man.
Sakina memorably starred as White House Chief of Staff Linda Vasquez in House of Cards, directed and produced by David Fincher. She also currently appears on the Prime Video exclusive series Mr. Robot, playing Antara Nayar, as well as playing Mindy’s mother, Sonu, in The Mindy Project.
Based on the best-selling book of the same name, American Gods also stars Ricky Whittle (The 100, Austenland) as protagonist ex-con Shadow Moon, Ian McShane (Deadwood, Pirates of the Caribbean) as Mr. Wednesday, and Emily Browning (Sucker Punch, Legend) as Shadow’s wife, Laura Moon. Season two will see the return of Pablo Schreiber (13 Hours, Orange Is the New Black) as Mad Sweeney, Yetide Badaki (Aquarius, Masters of Sex) as Bilquis, Bruce Langley as Tech Boy and Kristin Chenoweth, as Easter.
Series two of the much-anticipated series is currently in production and will return exclusively to Prime Video in 2019.”
It’s true that Sakina may not be a household name (except in her own household presumably), but she is a very recognisable face, and has done sterling work in a number of prestigious projects in recent years. It seems fitting therefore that this fine character actress finds a place in one of Amazon’s most exciting and ambitious projects.
